Wallpaper – one of the most popular and popular finishing materials for walls and ceiling. The older -generation people perfectly remember the huge lines behind them, who first by recording, and then physically had to be exhibited for ordinary paper wallpaper with a slurred pattern. Nevertheless, in those days – all this seemed unthinkable luxury and luck. Today, the acquisition of wallpapers has been overgrown with completely different difficulties, namely the choice of type, texture, density and colors. These classes occupy the lion’s share of time in the repair process, most often, more than their direct gluing.
The choice of glue is no less problem. For the current variety of types of wall coatings, an even larger number of adhesives have been created, which, if the choice can overshadow the joy of repair.
Important! Glue for wallpapers must correspond to the type of coating.
In this material, we will analyze in detail the main types of wallpaper available on the market for a more fully understanding of what kind of glue is needed for work.
Types of wallpaper
Paper wallpapers are the cheapest and common representatives of this type of finishing material. They differ in lightness, but can shine through a poorly prepared wall. Also, thin wallpapers can break from an excess of glue or their rigid straightening when gluing. Among the paper wallpaper, it is customary to distinguish between their own subspecies (smooth, structural, murals, embossed).
Washing wallpaper – relatively young direction in the production of coating for walls. Their distinctive feature is tolerance for moisture and mechanical damage. Such wallpapers became especially in demand in kitchens, in bathrooms, corridors and on balconies. Differ from paper washing wallpaper by the presence of the base and the protective outer layer of polymers, resistant to external exposure. Among the washing wallpaper there are their own subspecies (silk -up, foamy vinyl, heavy vinyl, flt (flat) vinyl).
For all types of wallpaper of this class, glue for vinyl wallpaper on a paper basis is suitable. If we are talking about a complex wall relief or many transitions, before buying, specify the specific characteristics for each glue option from the seller.
Textile wallpaper is one of the last fashion trends. Like the previous type, they are multi -layer. Depending on the type and quality of all layers, the price is tightly formed. External and, for expensive models, the inner layer (which adjacent directly to the wall) are made of natural textiles. For the inner layer, this ensures the concealment of painful errors in putty and preparation, as well as the best fit to the basis. The outer layer must be made of textiles, this coating gives pleasant tactile sensations and the original texture of the coating.
Glue for wallpapers of this type has slightly different properties than the one that is chosen for textile wallpaper on a paper basis. Pay attention to this when choosing it.
Non -woven – a very young type of wallpaper that has already noticeably suppressed their usual types on the market. Non -woven – material made from cellulose. Wallpaper of this type most often two -layer and upper layer is covered with a polymer coating. Color and tactile gamma is extremely wide for this variety.
It is worth noting the minus of non -woven wallpaper – their weight. The material is quite dense, because entire stripes when pasting walls weigh quite a lot. For work with such wallpapers, glue for non -woven wallpaper is sold which will be best held on the spot. Ordinary adhesives will not be able to keep the strip at all and it falls off either at the repair stage, or immediately after the completion of work, during the drying process.
Do not waste time and money – take a special glue that is announced in the instructions for working with the wallpaper.
Liquid wallpaper – an original solution to promote new types of putty on the market. They are applied as well as preparatory layers on the wall – a spatula or spray gunner. Actually glue them, you can do everything with your own hands – this is not difficult, as you can see in the photo.
Fucking wallpaper – a modern solution to the question of how to adapt the wallpaper to the bathroom. No other wallpapers except these and metallic ones withstand any adequate terms, due to high humidity and temperature.
The basis of such wallpaper is fiberglass, soaked in coloring and protecting composition. The layer adjacent to the wall is made of moisture -resistant paper.
Metal wallpapers – the last word in finishing materials for walls. The paper base carries an aluminum foil with embossing or a specially sprayed pattern covered with the finest layer of polymer to protect. Such wallpapers are decent, but they also have an extremely presentable. You need to work with them very carefully so as not to damage the foil.
Our small excursion into the world of wallpaper is completed, let’s return to the topic of the article – to wallpaper glue. In the process of describing the types of wallpaper, we talked about some special adhesives, now let’s take a look at the direct process of applying glue to the canvas. The subtleties of working with more complex types of wallpaper are presented in the video for this article, and, in fact, in the material we will master the process on the simplest representative – this is glue for paper wallpapers.
DIY wallpaping guide
The glue is first kneaded according to the recipe on the pack. For some varieties of glue, preliminary exposure is necessary during the day – pay attention to this.
Cut and previously fitted strip is laid on the floor and the edges are clamped so that the roll does not roll back.
A uniform layer of glue is applied with a maclawial brush. It is important to understand here that the layer should not be large, otherwise the strip will fall off the wall or soften the paper heavily. It is not shared and too small, otherwise the canvas does not soak enough. The approximate layer should not exceed a millimeter. Carefully look at the whole strip on the light reflection to determine dry places – they need to be according to glue. If there are places where there are too many glues, spread it throughout the lane. Pay special attention to the edges of the strip so that the joints of the joints are high -quality missed.
Raise the bottom of the strip and fold it so that the 2/3 of the canvases glue and only a third remains ready for gluing. Raise the strip and attach to its place open part.
After exposing and pre -gluing the upper third, we unfold the rest of the canvas and glue it in place.
To remove air from under the canvas, use flexible wallpaper spatulas and rollers.
For some types of wallpaper, especially for those that pass the printed print (murals) is characterized by wrapping the joints of the joints. Ordinary glue is not able to keep them in place until completely dry. In such cases, glue is used for wallpaper joints. This is essentially a concentrated wallpaper glue that will keep the joints in the place. The price of such glue is relatively high, but the benefit is that it is not at all much. For the best quality of gluing joints, use a ribbed butt roller.
Important! In the process of gluing, the room should be protected from drafts. Complete drying occurs in 24 – 48 hours and at this time it is better not to enter the room at all, so as not to stimulate drafts.
