Loft living room, as well as in retro or in eco-style-phenomena are not so common. The reason is not the complexity of the embodiment of these ideas, but in limited knowledge about each of them. Who knows, perhaps, having got acquainted with them closer, you will no longer ask yourself the question in what style to design the living room?
Loft-industrial and industrial design
Living room in the style of space Shebbi
This style originated at the turn of the 40s of the XX century on the island of Manhattan, when under housing and creative workshops they began to adapt the attic premises of industrial buildings and abandoned manufactories. But by the 50th, this housing has ceased to be affordable to the general public, having received the status of an elite.
Today, in the style of loft, quite ordinary apartments in standard houses are issued, but it is about stylization, and not about to deliberately flaunt pipes and brick masonry of the house.
Characteristics of style
Those who have become interested in Loft style should first understand that the room will not work out alone. Firstly, this style is too individual, and if the minimalist living room can be arranged in the apartment of any stylistics, then the loft-style room will stand out too much. And secondly, the style itself implies the use of open spaces, for its implementation, all partitions indoors are usually removed to the maximum, with the exception of the load-bearing walls, the walls of the bedroom and bathroom.
General characteristics of the loft:
Open space;
High ceilings;
Huge windows, often in the entire wall;
The use of communications as decor elements;
To a minimum designed walls and floors (open brickwork or coatings imitating brick, concrete or plank floors);
Maximum light;
A combination of modern materials (chrome surfaces, glass) with old (wood, simple plaster).
All of the above does not mean at all that you need to remove plaster from the walls, and the floor is exposed to concrete. Designers usually skillfully use one or two natural details – ventilation boxes or pipes – and for decor use imitation of the necessary materials.
How to do it?
If you plan to arrange a Loft -style room, you will have to start with the windows. If there is no way to expand the window opening, then order windows with a minimum of partitions, which will create a feeling of space. Or use a thin frame in the form of a lattice stylized under the window at the factory. Instead of curtains, you can use shutters or blinds.
Bulk floors will be an ideal solution in this case, since they allow you to imitate the concrete coating. Micro -chamber will also cope with this role.
The ceilings just need to be painted with white paint or plaster, no stretch and multi -level options are suitable here. For wall cladding, use decorative plaster or facing ceramic brick.
Since the brick is a fairly expensive material, you can use it only on parts of the surfaces of the walls, for example, let a horizontal strip 1 meter in the middle of the wall or arrange free angles in the room. The remaining surface of the walls must be covered with plaster in a couple of tones lighter than brick.
The finishing materials are characterized by brick, dark brown, gray and black color, while the ceiling is traditionally white. The ceiling is also a place of placement of lamps, for the loft style, it is uncharacteristic to use wall sconces that place light accents. There is always a lot of light in such an apartment, there are no intimate darkened corners.
Furniture in the living room should be allocated against the background of the finish. Compared to deliberately industrial design of the walls, a sofa or armchairs should look like “sibarites”. This means maximum comfort, modern design and quality materials. Sofas type “accordion” or traditional “Books” leave aside, give preference to massive corner sofas or easier structures “Click Dippler”. The choice will depend on the size of the room. Instead of traditional chairs, throw several moss armchairs on the floor.
Places for storage are various racks in an industrial style through which a rough wall decoration is visible. Simple shelves suspended so that fasteners are visible.
As a decor, paintings set right on the floor are used, as if they were brought and forgot to hang, various floor vases in a classic style. It is worth noting that the elements of the decor as a whole argue with the rest of the situation, they can relate to objects of antiquity or ethnic objects.
Living room in the style of a chalet
Living room in eco-style
This style is more suitable for decorating a country house or Townhouse, but with a competent approach, you can arrange it in a city apartment.
“Chalet” from French is translated as “shepherd’s hut”, therefore it is easy to guess that its characteristic feature is unpretentiousness. Its other name is the alpine style, which is associated with the region of its occurrence.
Mandatory decor element – ceiling beams that should have the form of shaved and ancient. Another attribute is a living flame, a fireplace with a stone portal. In the city you can replace it with an electric fireplace or simply designate a “fireplace”, making it an element of wall decor.
The rest of the chalet style is very close to the American country and is characterized by rural simplicity with alpine motives.
How to arrange a chalet -style room
To cover the floor, use a traditional laminate not lower than 32 strength levels stylized for a tree. The best colors are dark brown or brown.
The ceiling needs to be whitewashed and organized, in the color of the floor, beams across the room, at a distance of about 1-1.5 meters from each other.
For wall decoration, you can use wooden panels or simple plaster, without special effects.
Windows in the style of a chalet should have massive frames, preferably wooden or made of plastic made under a tree. They will close them with light curtains from a sitz or similar material in a small flower.
The interior of the living room will be built around the fireplace. If there is no way to arrange a portal made of natural stone, then make it from drywall. It is appropriate to hang deer horns over the fireplace, which are a traditional decoration of the chalet, and in front of an impromptu focus, spread the carpet stylized under the skin of a bear. These are the same alpine motives that distinguish the style of chalet from country.
The furniture should be quite massive, soft and comfortable. The artificially aged tree (armrests, legs of sofas and armchairs) looks good in such an interior). As a place for storage, it is better to use massive cabinets and secretaries made of natural wood covered with varnish.
Ecostil – an echo of forest in your apartment
The main characteristic of this style in the interior is naturalness and naturalness in everything – from finishing materials to the color scheme. It is characterized by the use of an unlawed tree, minimally processed stone, the presence of many living plants, aquariums.
Interestingly, eco -style can be applied to a variety of interiors – Japanese, country style or Provence, to minimalism. That is, in fact, it is not even a style, but the principle of design based on naturalism and grace.
How to do it?
When planning a design in eco -style, forget about plastic, metal, acrylic and other artificial materials. In the future, speaking of furniture and decor elements, we will keep in mind exclusively natural materials – wood, bamboo, vine, leather. It is permissible to use glass.
Cover the floor in the living room with a laminate of light brown shade. Ecostille allows the use of carpets, but not synthetic or woolen roses, but light wicker rugs.
Bamboo wallpapers are suitable for wall decoration, and for more budget repairs, the murals with landscape or forest motifs will be a good choice.
Ideally, plastic windows should be replaced with wooden ones, but such a replacement will look strange given that not so long ago, the general replacement of wooden frames on PVC began. To hide plastic, use Roman curtains from bamboo, and force the windowsill with living plants.
Furniture – either natural leather or light wicker. Ullo furniture, upholstered by natural textiles, is acceptable, but such upholstery wears out quite quickly. Open racks are used as storage places, simple and roomy. Secretors, chests of drawers and modular systems in the eco-interior are not provided.
Design colors – light shades of brown, beige, pistachio and color of young foliage, as well as all colors of natural raw materials.
Living room in the style of Fusion
The word Fusion itself in English means “mixing”, and the style is characterized by a sophisticated combination of incompatible, seemingly details. The classic European interior is diluted with abstractionism, ethnic motives and creative crafts.
It is characterized by bright and juicy colors, but they need to operate competently, avoiding excessive diving and riot of colors.
Lighting is organized by zones using many small lamps. And colored spotlights can bring the highlight to the design.
Materials for the living room use soft, mainly natural, no glass, chrome and mirror surfaces.
How to do it?
To cover the floor, use a beige or light sandy carpet carpet. The walls must be arranged in the same colors as the floor, but a couple of tones are brighter. Smooth wallpaper, plaster or paint are suitable.
Since this style is chosen by creative people, marker paint is best suited. It will allow you to record the sudden ideas and make sketches right on the walls, and then it is easy to wash these inscriptions.
Unlike previously considered options, in this case the stretch ceiling is very helpful. It will achieve an ideal surface with a minimum of effort.
On traditional plastic windows, hang velvet curtains of bright color, let at least one decor item – a cape or a pillow on the couch, a napkin on a coffee table, and t with these curtains. D.
Any of upholstered furniture is selected, the main requirement here is comfort. It can be an ordinary corner sofa, the sofa “Click of the Dry” or “American”. Add a couple of chairs from the same collection and a low cabinet with a leap cover that will play the role of a coffee table.
Fouzhn is characterized by the absence of cabinets, racks and modular systems, they are replaced by ordinary shelves scattered along the wall in a chaotic manner.
Dilute the resulting interior with your favorite souvenirs brought from travels, bright pillows, paintings. As lamps, you can use several options for various shapes and colors.
Empire style hall
Empire in interior design today is extremely rare.
Firstly, because it requires large space and high ceilings that are characteristic of the buildings of the Stalin era.
Secondly, its embodiment is a fairly expensive pleasure, and attempts to replace exclusive materials cheaply will only lead to the fact that your interior will become a miserable likeness of luxurious apartments.
Thirdly, not everyone likes to dwell in mugs resembling a museum.
For the design of the living room in the Empire style, the presence of bright noble colors – deep blue, white, scarlet, purple in combination with gilded elements of furniture fittings is characteristic.
Fabrics are used expensive, for example, velvet, brocade with gold and silver embossing, silk, atlas. Of course, today it is allowed to use not natural fabrics, but their synthetic analogues, since they are more durable.
Furniture is characterized by symmetry, classic lines, carved details. Wooden furniture is certainly polished and varnished. Furniture for such a living room choose a lush woods, decorated with bronze tops, legs in the form of lion paws, etc. D. When choosing a sofa, you will have to sacrifice convenience for the sake of decorativeness.
Walls and ceiling are usually decorated with stucco and frescoes, you can often find a painting on the topic of Greek mythology. Numerous figurines also attribute us to the era of the gods.
Lighting is performed using crystal lamps with numerous pendants, and massive candelabra will perform a decorative function. The interior is completed by heavy curtains with golden brushes and lush lambrequins.
Empire style requires a good taste from the designer, otherwise all this can turn into a clumsy and deliberately tasteless interference of gold, brocade and stucco, and not in an exquisite expensive interior.
Shebbie Shik and retro-second-hand in the interior
Shebbie Shik, literally translated as “shabby chic”, is a completely new direction in the design of interiors, originating in the 80s of the last century. The idea of this style belongs to the English designer Rachel Ashlie, who bought old furniture in flea markets, restored it and created unique interiors on its basis.
For this direction, a characteristic feature is the use of old and artificially aged things. At the same time, color is of great importance – it should be light, tender. Aggressive red shades, black and purple are excluded immediately. But delicate pastel, beige, lemon-yellow, light blue, brown and creamy are only welcome.
For retro style, “grandmother” dresses and sideboards, striped carpets, cozy little sofas, canapes are also selected. But the colors are used more vivid, characteristic of the period of the 50-70s. Black and white photographs of the film ave of those times will add a highlight and create a retro atmosphere.
Both styles are based on the use of used interior items, although in stores today you can find modern furniture stylized in the right spirit. But is it worth spending money on it if you can get a much more original interior using furniture that was used.
